Chickens as pets in the suburbs?

My daughter would like us to get chickens as pets in the suburbs (we have a quarter acre)? She says 3 chickens is the right number. I wonder if they would attract pests, cats, dogs and other animals? Are they good pets? Do they recognize people? And can you train them at all? Any ideas?

Chickens are classified as

Chickens are classified as dumb animal, I don't beleive that they can be trained, sorry! Sound like your land can handle three chickens.

first of all you may not be

first of all you may not be allowed to have farm animals in the city. Where I lived I had three chickens and it was great the eggs were great and I loved my chickens. They are really smart and exciting birds. Yes they can attract racoons who will try and eat them and if a racoon is intent on eating your chicken he will. As for other animals coming into the yard. If a cat jumps the fence he will not bother a full grown chicken and often dogs do dig under fences. But worst of all is when a neighbor says he refuses to live next door to a barn. That's what mine did and I hav to get rid of my chickens. Kelsey
