city folks

Just had some city folks moved in next door. Nice pair but a little strange. They built a chicken coupe over a pond where the have catfish. They say they will recycle the chicken dropings for fish food. The water stinks a mighty something. Where do they get theses ideas?

Sounds like they are

Sounds like they are environmentalists, but I don't know of any fish that eat waste from any other animals. My feeling, as a fish owner, is that the fish will not survive due to the waste buildup which pushes the nitrites and nitrates in the water off the scale. Maybe they know something that I don't, but it doesn't sound good. As a city folk myself, I recycle as much as I can and encourage others to do so as well. Your new neighbors sound like they are a bit more creative than I am though. :( If it smells really bad, I think you have the right to have a discussion with them about it. Maybe you can find a happy medium. (You might want to ask if they are sure about the fish benefiting from the chicken waste also)

It sounds like a mess and

It sounds like a mess and very unhealthly?

Yes, it doesn't sound good to

Yes, it doesn't sound good to me to pollute their water with chicken droppings. I don't see how this could be good for anyone- and stinkiness is never good, is it?

We had some city folks move

We had some city folks move in behind our house on a small plot we didn't think would ever sell - for one thing, it's very close to a flood plain......we're on 4 acres, but it's all been family property at one time. Anyway, the city dude erected a mighty fine white flagpole just off our property line to the northeast. Call me sacriligious, I'm as faithful an American as the next guy, or more so - Navy wife for several years - but I couldn't help but ask th Good Lord if he would mind doing something about that big white flag pole just off my picture window - I prefer to look at the turkey and the deer. Well, He complied. We had a really nasty thunderstorm (in Kansas in December?) a few nights ago, and during the night I heard a very loud hit of lightening very close. Next morning? Yep, you guessed it. I thought about going and picking up Old Glory off the ground, but these days you could get sued. Very Nice of the Lord to Show Up. God bless ya', Linda from Kansas
